Not Coming To A Cinema Near You: Fruitvale Station

By now it’s clear that everyone has heard of Fruitvale Station.  is literally on the cover of every magazine and the film has been getting a lot of love across the globe (except the UK).

If you follow Movie Geeks, you’ll know that I was pretty obsessed with this film after watching it at Sundance London last year. It won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for U.S dramatic film at Sundance Film Festival 2013.

Directed by newcomer Ryan Coogler and starring Octavia Spencer and Fruitvale Station is a true story about Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old who crosses paths with friends, enemies and family members before he is shot dead by police on New Years Eve in 2008. This is the type of  film that we need see in the UK and I’m still baffled as to why no one has picked it up. Sad times.

Check out the featurette below if you’ve not had a chance to watch the film. Oh and if anyone reading this is going to release the film on dvd in the UK please get in touch with me!

GEEK FACT: The film was bought by The Weinstein Company for $2.5 million, two days after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
