About Movie Geeks
Sandy Cheema, is a movie geek living and working in London. Sandy started her blog in January 2009 after a trip to New York where she visited McDowell’s restaurant in Queens, in homage to Coming To America…it’s sad but true!
Movie Geeks consists of her widely read thoughts, personal experiences and love for classic 80′s films. Sandy has worked closely on the UK films releases of Adam Yauch’s Gunnin’ for That #1 Spot, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest, Ice T’s Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap and many more. Sandy is a freelance film consultant and works full-time as a BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra producer.
A few things about Sandy…
- I am obsessed with horror films and have been ever since my older cousins forced me to watch Child’s Play at the age of 4.
- I have made my family watch Home Alone every Christmas since 1990 (it’s fair to say that it is now a festive tradition).
- I have an unhealthy obsession with Coming To America – I’ve lost count of the amount times that I’ve watched it.
- I studied Film, Culture and Society at The University of Birmingham and did my dissertation on the representation of women in The Color Purple.
